We bet you've never given your pee any thought. After all, it's just a daily activity you just need to get done! But did you know that your pee can tell if you've got any health issues? Well, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Here are some interesting facts about pee that are sure to blow your mind. Take a look.
1. The smell: Your pee can smell like a specific food sometimes. But if your urine smells foul it could be because of bacteria and a potential urinary tract infection. If you think it's unusual, you must consult a doctor. But beware of sweet smelling urine which is often a symptom of diabetes.
2. Average amount of pee: On an average most people pee at least seven times a day depending on what they drink and how much. And each stream lasts for approximately seven seconds and is healthy.
3. Bladder control: Did you know that your bladder can hold upto 500 ml of urine? This is equal to five to six glasses of water and has nothing to do with your height or weight.
4. Pee detox: Peeing is a way to detox the body of all the unwanted waste. The food you eat and the drinks you gulp all get broken down in your body, get filtered through your kidneys and are then passed out.
5. The urethra: We all know that the urine passes out of our body from the urethra which is connected to the bladder. But did you know that women have a 1.2 to 1.6 inch long urethra? Well, that's not all. Men have one which is eight inches long.
6. The older you get the lesser you pee: Your pee stream gets weaker with age. This happens because as men age their prostrate gets larger, obstructing the urine stream making it less forceful. The lining of the bladder and urethra also become less supple. In fact you may also have to pee more often when you age.
7. Pee colour reflects your health: Clear white pee indicates that you are well hydrated or even over hydrated. Pale yellow pee indicates just enough water intake while a dark yellow urine could indicate that you are less hydrated. Sometimes it could be brown and that could be because of a serious liver infection. A rare red or pink pee could be a sign of fresh blood which is a warning of infection or kidney issues.
8. Foamy pee: If your pee is foamy this could be due to an infection or increase in sugar in your urine, which could be due to diabetes. If this happens regularly, it's best to see a doctor.
9. Kidney stones can be removed in pee: Yes, if you've got a kidney stone that is small, you can literally pee it out, although it will be painful. Kidney stones are basically mineral deposits found in your kidney.
10. Urine is mostly made of water: Even though urine contains 3,000 different components, 95 per cent of it is water. It also has three per cent urea and other compounds.
11. Peeing during an orgasm: Peeing during an orgasm is tough because the bladder neck closes, which makes peeing out of the question. So unless you haven't been to the washroom in hours, or suffer from urinary incontinence, you won't need to.
