Poll affidavit case: SC quashes clean chit to Fadnavis, paves way for trial

The Supreme Court on Tuesday set aside the concurrent clean chit by trial court and Bombay HC to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the case of filing false election affidavit thus paving the way for his trial. The petitioner had alleged that Fadnavis, in his election affidavit filed in 2014, had failed to disclose the pendency of two criminal cases against him.

Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal, Harris County Sheriff's deputy, was shot and killed in an "ambush-style" attack in a "ruthless, cold-blooded way" in the US state of Texas, a senior official said Saturday. 'Mini-Budget': Govt slashes corp tax rates to boost eco, investments

The govt on Friday slashed the income tax rate for companies by almost 10 percentage points to 25.17% and offered a lower rate to 17.01% for new manufacturing firms to boost economic growth rate from a six-year low. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the reduction in tax rates has been done by promulgating an ordinance to an amendment to the Income Tax Act.
