The exclusion of a large number of Bengali-speaking people from the NRC in BJP-ruled Assam has triggered the scare in neighbouring Bengal. A voter e-verification drive by Election Commission, coupled with the CM’s announcement of providing digital ration cards as “proof of identity and address” to those who do not avail ration regularly, have added to the confusion.
