The Nirbhaya case and the revision of laws relating to crime against women saw a nationwide increase in reporting of rape cases — but the pattern is not uniform as the spike is more noticeable in regions closer to Delhi and tends to weaken farther from the capital. But analysis also shows that rape reporting went up 33% in 2013-16 over 2005-12.
