UP: Migrants account for 60% of active Covid cases
Uttar Pradesh's Covid-19 cases crossed the 6,500-mark, with 229 fresh cases being reported in the past 24 hours. Covid-19 cases in India cross 1 lakh mark, over 3,000 dead
One hundred and nine days after the first person tested positive for Covid-19 in India, the country’s case count crossed the 1-lakh mark on Monday, with the number infections having doubled in just a little over 12 days. On Monday, 4,713 fresh infections were reported from across the country, the third highest in a single day so far, led again by Maharashtra, which reported more than 2,000 cases.

Chinese envoy to Israel found dead in his home
The Chinese ambassador to Israel was found dead in his home north of Tel Aviv on Sunday, Israel's Foreign Ministry said. No cause of death was given and Israeli police said it was investigating. Du Wei, 58, was appointed envoy in Feb in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. He previously served as China's envoy to Ukraine. He is survived by a wife and son.

India produces desi swabs for cheaper test kits
India has started manufacturing indigenous swabs for Covid-19 testing, with two firms —Tulips and a Mumbai-based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) — getting a green signal from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute for Virology in Pune. The swabs will cost one-tenth of the imported swabs currently in use, bringing down the cost of Covid-19 testing.
